Zion Williamson Wins Best College Athlete at ESPY’s

With both electrifying play and persona, Zion Williamson has collected accolades across the board in college basketball; now, his stock of awards includes one that spans all college athletics. ESPN awarded him Best College Athlete for the 2018-2019 year as expected. Zion Williamson is no longer simply a basketball star, but has been for a while an ambassador of our sport to the world.

Forget a case. He should probably just buy a whole house.

Congratulations, yet again, to Zion on one of the most incredible college years we’ve been lucky enough to witness. New Orleans has gained a phenomenal young player and man and he’ll always be part of The Brotherhood.

Zion to Miss Summer League with Knee Bruise

Luckily, the injury wasn’t worse, but Zion Williamson will miss the remainder of the NBA’s Summer League with a deep knee bruise. In the minutes that he played Zion was dominant, with 11 points in the less than a half that he played. He struggled early in a matchup against New York’s Kevin Knox; however, once switched to the center, Zion was able to beat the Knicks’ 7’1″ post defender with his quickness below the basket. Clearly, the Pelicans will try to maximize his abilities in the post.

However, before finishing his first professional game, a knee-on-knee hit ended both his game and Summer League. The Pelicans’ medical staff diagnosed it as a bruised knee– essentially and gratefully the least severe of the numerous knee-related possibilities– but shut him down for the summer to preserve his health. He will, however, surely be able to improve his physical shape by October and be ready to dominate the league when his time comes.

Must-See Tonight: RJ-Zion Face-Off Headlines Summer League

No, not the Hobbs and Shaw commercial: RJ Barrett and Zion Williamson will face off for the first time on a (kind of) NBA court tonight at 9:30 ET in the Las Vegas Summer League. The league is the final and largest of the NBA offseason, usually showcasing the draft crop plus some of the previous year.

While Cam Reddish, now the Hawks’ newest young star, will sit rehabbing an injury, both Zion Williamson of the Pelicans and RJ Barrett of the Knicks will play. Not only will they play, they face off against each other tonight for the first time.

Bleed blue. It’ll be fun to watch their relationship turn just a little bit competitive.

Warriors Lose Quinn Cook

The Warriors’ dynasty seems to be ending, and after one championship with the franchise, Quinn Cook will depart from Golden State. Struggling with cap space, the amount of money they can spend on players, the Warriors were forced to let both Cook and veteran fan-favorite Andre Iguodala go this summer. Quinn was a restricted free agent, meaning he would return with a qualifying offer, but the Warriors’ front office rescinded their offer, making him an unrestricted free agent. After his success, however, with the league’s best team, he shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a new home. The Warriors will be sad to see him go; he wasn’t specifically the Dubs’ star player but his grit and hard work made him a coaches’ and players’ favorite. This isn’t surprising to Duke fans, who all saw Quinn’s heart in the 2015 championship run he led as well as his previous three seasons in Durham. Bleed blue.

Freshmen Attend First Classes

We got a first taste of what the newest of of the 2019-2020 Blue Devils will look like with the First Day of Classes post from the renowned Duke MBB Instagram Account, whose Twitter account is by far the most popular in the NCAA.

Left to right: Vernon Carey, Cassius Stanley, Matthew Hurt, Michael Savarino, Wendell Moore, and Keenan Worthington. We’ve got a new-look team (miss y’all, 2017-18 team) and we’re excited to see what they bring to The Brotherhood. Bleed blue.

Cam Reddish Is #10 Pick

Cam Reddish is the tenth pick in the 2019 Draft to the Atlanta Hawks, joining a young core that tanked specifically to come back next year stronger based on this draft. They had a good haul in this draft, with other players like De’Andre Hunter and with a talented point guard in Trae Young, they have the pieces to make waves in the East. Cam Reddish is versatile and very physically and athletically gifted; if he puts it together he can be one of the best players in this draft. His shooting stroke is magnificent. We wish him all the best as he heads into the league.
