Duke Cruises by Pitt, 79-64

Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett dominated yet again as Duke got its sixteenth win of the season against Jeff Capel and Pitt, 79-64. It was over in the first half and not as close as the score might imply. Pitt kept it close until they were able to take the lead 16-15, but an immediate 11-0 run led by RJ and Zion was just too much for the Panthers and the Blue Devils would take a 44-25 lead at the half. The lead was consistently 20 until the end when Pitt made a quick run. Basically, it was a taking-care-of-business win– not perfect but inspired enough to defeat Pitt without taking out all of our energy.

Two GOATs?

We already had Coach K in the building. But what if there was another GOAT in the building?

That’s what happened according to Zion Williamson as rapper and music giant Jay-Z came to watch him play. Zion was not fazed by one of his favorite rappers and started the game a perfect 10-for-10 from the field, though he did say he noticed that Jay-Z was in attendance.

When he walks in with that whole squad, you look over and it’s like, ‘Oh my god, that’s him, that’s Hova’.

Zion Williamson

Williamson also noted that Jay-Z’s “Dream” was his favorite hype song for pre-game. “I can never go wrong with that one,” he said. He didn’t, tonight, as he and RJ Barrett were the spark for the Blue Devils.

Cam Reddish had 15 points, as well. Jack White continued to struggle from 3 as he has since the Syracuse loss last week, but we have faith in him to find his shot again soon. He was 0-1 from three (but you can’t be mad at him for missing one shot, especially when it got immediately dunked by Zion) but did make one shot and two free throws.

Speaking of free throws, Duke shot a much better 80% from the line today! It’s been a big issue and we’re certainly happy that they’ve got it back going in the right direction.

Bleed blue.
